I have to share one of my favorite things. While in Napa last September, my husband and I were admiring the side shops in St. Helena when we spyed this rustic old building with lots of character . We had to go check it out and I must say I am so glad we did ! Truly , it is a gem, featuring flavorful olive oils called St. Helena Olive Oil Company.
From the outside it looked average size but as you opened the door we saw it was a huge warehouse that smelled of sweet fragrant olive oil. Aaaahhh. Everywhere I looked it was full of barrel like tables of dark Italian shaped bottles with paper tags hanging from their necks. Each label listed its name like a badge of glory. The aroma was simply amazing and the decor or old timeless items fit perfectly. The front of the store had warehouse wide windows to spill in with tons of light. In the back was a draped velvet curtain to separate the dimly lit area bar for special oil tasting parties I believe . There we found a row of old velvet theatre seats that were actually comfortable .
We tasted everything we could . My favorite was the flavored olive oil . It was not too strong but just enough flavor . Lemon, Basil , Rosemary , to name a few but the one that won us over with the fresh artisian bread chunks for dipping was the Jalapeno. St Helena Olive Oil Company works with local organic olive farmers to create the best extra virgin olive oil. We also love the lemon . We gladly made our purchase and have savored every single drop . We recently ran out in which it was an oh so so sad day ….. My husband says his eggs haven’t been the same since.
But I have good news! As luck would have it I received a message from the owner at St Helena Olive Oil Company two days ago and she is running a sale. Today is the last day so hurry and use the code Meteor to get 30% off. She also has jams , balsamic vinegar and other treats so take a look!
This food is the gift of the whole universe: the earth, the sky and much hard work.
· May we live in a way that makes us worthy to receive it.
· May we transform our own unskilled states of mind and learn to eat with moderation.
· May we take only foods that nourish us and prevent illness.
· We accept this food so that we may realize the path of understanding and love.
